I can't afford one.
Rubbish. Bicycles come in every price range--and that's NEW. You can always pick one up used through any of the various web-sites where people sell things (you know the ones). Yes, you can spend thousands of dollars on a new bike, but you can also buy perfectly functioning bicycles for as little as $90 to $100. Used bikes you can sometimes get for as little as going to pick it up.
I have nowhere to ride.
There's always a place to ride. If you're afraid/anxious about riding on your city streets, there is always parking lots, local school campuses, parks, and most cities have some kind of biking/walking trail(s) now.
However, to address the "streets" issue, almost all states afford bicycles the same rights on the roads as they do automobiles and motorcycles. Drivers are becoming more and more aware and respectful of cyclists--although those results still vary depending on times and places. And, as long as you cycle like you would drive (you know, obeying the traffic laws and signals, paying attention to and for other drivers, and always staying alert) you will be just as safe--quite a bit safer actually--as if you were in a vehicle.
I don't have the space to store it.
Again, absurd. No matter what your living accommodations are, there is always a way/place to store a bike. Innovators in the cycling world have become quite amazing in this particular area.
There are devices to help you:
* Hang it from the ceiling
* Hang it vertically on the wall
* Hang it horizontally on the wall
* Stack them in mid air
and the list goes on
There are also a variety of cabinets for storing bikes that can be useful in other ways as well.
We store our bikes on the SpareHand Q-Rak Dual Bike Rack
So please, please, please, get yourself a bike and start ride'n that bad boy. You'll love it.
